A Blythe Holiday Giveaway: The Winners!

I’m sure you’re all excited to find out who won the two lovely and super adorable miniatures from Carmen/Smidge Girl. Because if I were any of you that entered, I’d be wanting to know if I have a super cute little wreath or a little bare Christmas tree for my dolls this holiday season.

Both numbers/winners were selected at the same time via a handy dandy little integer picker. So I decided that prizes would go to the winners according to which ones I had mentioned first in the original post (The Rockefeller Wreath was mentioned first, followed by the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree). So let me refresh your memory a little bit… 😉

But what we’re really all interested in is who won, right? Well the winners are…

Vacationing with Blythe?

When on Flickr, I see some great photos that people take of their Blythes in airports, at landmarks or just about everywhere that they go. I’m still working up the courage (is that the right word to use for it?) to take my Blythes out and about in my local community, but I haven’t taken my dolls to many places outside of my house. But while I haven’t gone on any measurable sense of a vacation since before I was a teenager, I would love to take one of my dolls with me on vacation and get some photos of them in some exotic-to-me places with the local flora and fauna.

But while I think about the idea of taking a doll with me on this fictional vacation that I don’t have booked yet, I start thinking about all the things that could go terribly wrong. Airport security gets scared of Blythe and thinks she’s a covert spy weapon, she gets stolen (!!!), I lose one of her shoes, I don’t bring the right clothes for the weather, she gets stolen (!!!), I feel the need to bring all of my dolls on vacation with me so “no one gets left behind”, I don’t bring the right accessories for the weather/area, I get so caught up in taking photos of the scenery, I leave her in my purse for an entire day or she gets stolen (!!!). I mean, these are all legitimate concerns (yes, even the covert spy weapon concern!), so I would like you to share with me how you get your dolls ready for traveling and how on earth do you make sure you get all the right clothes and accessories for your dolls so your favourite clotheshorse doesn’t end up looking like she’s scowling at you all the time?

Questionnaire time!

  • Have you ever gone on vacation and brought a Blythe doll (or two or three…) with you?
  • How did she travel? (In your bag? In your luggage? In your hand? Other…?)
  • How much clothing and accessories did you pack for your doll? One outfit per day or a handful of outfits for the entire duration of your vacation?
  • What kind of concerns do you have about traveling with Blythe?
  • Do you only travel with one or two Blythes or do you feel guilty about leaving someone behind and bring them all?

Blythe On A Budget: 10 Random Photo Ideas

I love Blythe and I love taking photos. Couple this with my love for lists and blogging and what do you get? A list of incredibly random photo ideas that you can use for just about anything. If you’re doing a 365 project, perhaps? Or maybe you just want to take more photos but aren’t sure of what, exactly, to do with your dolls. My slightly kooky and random mind is always available to lend a hand with ten interesting ideas for photos that won’t cost you very much at all besides some time and a little imagination!

16/365 - Sophie...?

  1. Put your Blythe amongst a lot of other toys. This works well if you still have a lot of your childhood toys, have a child who has a lot of toys or you’re an adult who’s a child at heart with a lot of other toys. Turn it into an I Spy kind of game with a list of things for people to find.
  2. Put your Blythe into a (clean!) flower pot and make tissue paper petals to put around her head. If you plant a Blythe, will you end up with more Blythes?
  3. Have a lot of books? Do a photo with dolly bookends! (I would do this. But I have a lot books. Like a lot of books. There’s no room for dolls on my shelves anymore. Or for more books, for that matter.)
  4. If you’re going to do some baking… I know some certain dolls that would probably like to help (or eat). Blythes and cupcakes go exceptionally well together. (Note: Please do not put your dolls into the oven. EVER. This is meant to be an idea of you taking photos of your newly-baked-but-taken-out-of-the-oven-and-cooled-down-cupcakes with dolls kind of photos. Please do not bake your dolls. Or cook them. Or broil them. Or fry them. Thank you.)
  5. Blythes and mirrors! Experiment with angles so you can get your Blythe’s reflection without your own. Very fun and very cool.
  6. Do a photo of your Blythe with all the doll clothes that you have. Let your doll go swimming in high fashion!
  7. Even better than #6: Blythe with a lot of shoes. Be sure to hide all your dolly’s bits!
  8. Ever gaze out your window? How about doing a photo of your Blythe gazing out the window? With so much emotion and attitude that can come out of our favourite doll’s eyes, it’s sure to be a good one!
  9. How do you normally carry your Blythe around? In your hand? In your purse? In a cup holder? Take a photo and share with the rest of us how your Blythe goes around in style!
  10. Take a photo of you and your Blythe. Do you look alike? Do you have matching styles or clothes? Do a twins photo! If you’re shy, you can always hold your Blythe in front of your face while taking the photo.

Spotlight On: Dollypedia.com

Lynn, who is also known in the Blythe community by her screen name natsukigirl, recently unveiled the wiki-portion of her fantastic website: dollypedia.com!

In the future, Dollypedia will have a community section as well, but right now the wiki section has been open! It’s a lot like Wikipedia where people can create and edit pages. Unlike Wikipedia, it doesn’t allow for anonymous people to edit things, so you should go ahead and create an account over there!

Dollypedia is only going to be successfully if we all pitch in to write something, it’s the only way that a big community-written encyclopedia for dolls is going to be done and it’s a great way to give back to the doll community (no matter what kind of doll you happen to collect, love and own) by writing up a little something.

There’s a lot of things you could write about, seeing as how new and shiny it is right now. You could write about Blythe, Kenner Blythe, ADG Blythes. You could write about ball-jointed dolls or wooden dolls or perhaps mass-produced dolls like Barbie, Moxie Girlz, Liv dolls. You could write about a lot of things to do with dolls and as long as it’s about and related to dolls and you’re not selling anything, everything goes!

So go, go, go check out the Dollypedia.com wiki and go make your mark!

A Blythe Holiday Giveaway with Carmen!

For those of you who don’t know who Carmen is, she’s relatively new to the wonderful world that is Blythe (she got her first Blythe a few months ago) and she’s known on Flickr as smidge girl. She does some fantastic and awesome crafts that she sells over at Etsy and two very lucky people can win some cute things made by Carmen, right here at BlytheLife.com!

You can find Carmen on Flickr, at her blog (Smidge House) or at her Etsy shop, Smidge House, where she sells 1/6th size furniture (which is perfect for our favourite doll, Blythe!).

Due to how late in the year it is, we’re not sure if the prizes will reach the winners before Christmas (or before the end of December, depending on where you are), but Carmen will ship the prizes as soon as the winners are announced.

First up, we have The Rockefeller Wreath. It’s 3″ in diameter and has gorgeous red, green and gold balls. It’s a super-light weight wreath so it can be hung by a pin, a string, a wire or you could just hold it up and admire it. Because, really, that’s what you do with really pretty things, right?

Secondly, and you all should get ready for this, is the Charlie Brown Mini Christmas Tree. Darling, isn’t it? And it looks so much like the tree in the movie… Ahh, memories! This adorable tree is 4″ tall, which includes the wooden stand (and not the little wooden table). And the cute little branches are all made of wire so you can bend them to your liking… Just so adorable, I love it!

If you don’t want to wait to see if you win the wreath or the tree, you can always check out Carmen’s Etsy shop where she sells a lot of cute stuff, all handmade by her!

And now for all the little details…

You can get up to two entries for this giveaway draw and you can enter until Saturday December 18th 2010 at 11:59pm PST. The draw will be held on Sunday December 19th 2010 and the two winners will be announced on BlytheLife.com. Remember to use a valid email address for all comments. If you win, your email will be forwarded to Carmen for arranging shipment of the prize.

Please only use one email address per person, those using multiple email addresses for more entries will be disqualified.

Mandatory Entry: Comment below to tell me and Carmen that you want to win! I’ll be doing an interview with Carmen in 2011, so if you have any questions for her, now’s the time to ask!

Bonus Entry: Tweet about the contest! Please retweet the following from your public Twitter account! (If you look below, there is a box for you to include your Twitter username, if you do, I can easily verify your bonus entry!)
