One of each, at the very least

One of my goals when I began in the Blythe hobby was to eventually have at least one Blythe of each mold type.

It’s just one of the things that I always liked about looking at photos of Blythes – dolls next to one another and me trying to see if I could see the difference between the molds. At this point, I’m pretty good about recognizing the different molds in photos. It takes a lot of time getting them dressed though. At this point, I have 9  and they spend a lot of time in the same clothes (heh). It’s not their fault, of course, it’s just that dressing and figuring out what clothes each doll should wear takes a lot of time. But I love them. A lot. Even if they’re always demanding new shoes and clothes, something that I’m not trying to give into this year.

All my Blythes, except for the newest addition – Mollie (short for Molybdenum), Simply Sparkly Spark.

I have one of every mold except for ADG (which I’m currently not interested in) and BL. I’m currently thinking of a Mondrian or a Parco – but the idea of plunking the amount of money down for a Parco would probably put me into an anxiety fit (yet buying a Kenner was somehow okay?).

I know that some people don’t like the SBL mold, but you have to admit that a lot of the SBLs came with fantastic stock clothes. My only SBL is Velvet Minuet, who was one of the first Blythes that I had seen (online). I have a maximum amount of 10 that I want to maintain, so seeing as I have 9 Blythes right now, that only really means room for one more (a BL – but I have decided to give myself a loophole that Blythes after the tenth one will be okay provided that they are Kenners).

Are there other people who have one of each type of Blythe mold, or are working towards having one of each Blythe mold?

Treasures for Dollars: Item 10

Treasures For Dollars is a mini-series that is completely focused on things that I actually find (and buy) from dollar stores and other similar stores. It will alternate with Blythe On A Budget articles for the next little while until the finale of the mini-series (at Part 10). I hope you enjoy the series!

The 10 part mini-series of Treasures For Dollars has finally come to an end. Is anyone else sad as well? (Maybe not me, because this could mean that I will stop trolling the aisles of the dollar stores looking for interesting things, at least for a little bit.) My last item is going to be a little bit more expensive than the other items and I didn’t even find it at a dollar store. No, I found it at a hardware store. It’s Loctite Super Glue (for all plastics). I first mentioned it back in November when I was working on fixing my Kenner. The glue failed for me several times before I gave it one last try just this past Monday (January 16th). I’ll save the details of what I did to finally make it work for my follow-up entry for when I reveal my reassembled Kenner (poor Emmalynn has been in pieces in a box since November!).

The two-part glue was $6.99CAD + 12% tax, making it the most expensive item featured in this mini-series. But it was totally worth it, because it (after many attempts!) eventually helped me fix my Kenner. And in the grand scheme of things, $6.99+tax is a lot less than buying a Kenner (besides if I were to find one at a thrift store).

What’s a good inexpensive dolly-find you discovered recently?

Question of the Week: How much do you DIY for your dolls?

23/365 - Clothes! I recently went through my dolls’ clothes to see if there were any things I could part with. My local doll group is fantastic for both destashing what I no longer really want to keep for my dolls and also for getting new things (they’re all a bunch of enablers, I swear!). Some of what I put into a bag of freebies are things that I’ve made myself for my dolls. I try to make most of my dolls’ clothes – at least that was the original goal that I had in mind when I first started collecting Blythes. I don’t really think that I got very far with that goal though – although most of the hats that my dolls have are made by me, if that counts. I have bought quite a fair bit of the wardrobe, along with participating in swaps (which are fantastic for getting new clothes!) and crafting things for my dolls.

With my New Year’s resolution of crafting at least two items for the dolls per month, I think I’m going to be a little bit more crafty this year. Photo progress will show up on Flickr (if I can remember), but it’ll also be good for me because I probably won’t be crocheting just 24 hats for the dolls, I may actually do other things (like knit and sew). It’ll be an interesting challenge – even if it’s not as challenging as making a clothing item per day (yes, some brave souls took on that challenge on Flickr!). I’d like to think that approximately a quarter of the dolls’ clothing that I have right now is handmade by me (but that’s a very rough estimate and probably being very generous to myself). But most of it is handmade by someone, if not me (thanks to trades with local Blythe peeps and swaps organized online), so that makes me feel pretty good about the level of handmade in the dolly closet.

How much do you DIY for your dolls? How much do you plan on crafting this year?

Are you a new(ish) crafter, customizer or blogger?

In 2011 I did a March Talent Showcase and this year I want to do the same thing! March 2012 will be a month of showcasing new talent in the dolly community. The only qualifications there are that you have to have been doing whatever it is that you do for one year or less. It’s all about showcasing you and what you do; and to also introduce the readers to new talent in the community, which I think is an important thing to do.

In March 2011, I showcased a new customizer, a fabric designer, a clothing shop and a fun handcrafted headband maker. I hope to do something similar this year by showcasing a variety of new talent.

I heart Rob & Sioux
Belarus and I would love to do an interview with you!

The interview process is really simple and takes place via email. Most interviews are 9-12 questions long and you can send me whatever relevant photos you want included (if photos are not taken by you, please get permission from the photographer[s] prior to sending me the photos with links to photographers).

If you are interested, please head over to the How to Get Featured page and let me know! Please include links to any blogs/sites/shops/pages that you want me to look at so I have an idea of what to ask you and be sure to mention that you want to take part in the March Blythe Talent Showcase!
