QOTW: Distinctive clothing styles for every doll?

One of the most fun things about being a Blythe enthusiast is the fact that there are so many options for clothing and shoes. Clothing and shoes can also end up being one of the more expensive components of the Blythe hobby. Recently I came across listings for Blythe clothing items (singular items) that were well over $100. One of those items was a really nice looking coat that was well over $100, and all I could think of was the fact that my own coat (that’s sized for me and not Blythe) was a relatively small fraction of the price. And at least I need to keep warm (sorry Blythes, but it won’t actually cause you harm if you’re out in the cold without a coat on!).

This led me to think about how expensive (and frivolously so) if every single one of my Blythes had their own distinctive clothing style that they wore. Thank goodness that there is generally overlap because I don’t think I could handle having to come up with fifteen different wardrobes, with shoes and accessories to match. The only doll that I have that doesn’t really share (unless duress) is Eden Mouse (the one who wears all the pink), and that’s just because she’s super picky (and thus I am picky…?).

Do you have distinctive clothing styles for every doll? Or maybe one or two dolls?

All my girls have their own style, but I sew their outfits or tailor cheap commercial doll clothes for them (like Liv or Moxie clothes). I also am keeping my Blythe family small and manageable. My biggest temptation are those adorable, realistic-looking shoes and booties. I also love vintage Mod clothing.

Pocket wears a lot of Button Arcade (pocket dresses!) but shares them with the other girls. Her trademark footwear are the Takara cowboy boots. Her sister Gillian wears jeans and t-shirts but again, shares with the others. She does NOT wear dresses. Her trademark are the converse…

I have two that are punk/goth/geek; the one is mostly blacks and purples for color of clothing, the other wears more geeky chic clothes.

Fawn wears lots of clothing with deer…but they all have to share. She mixes and matches from the other girls and lets some of them wear her fawn clothes.

The others…all a mix. I don’t think anything is “off limits” and ONLY for one girl, but they all have their preferences. 😉

My girls do have their own style, as much as possible (budgetary considerations!). My Hollywood twins Hope and Hero will only wear Button Arcade and I discovered yesterday evening when I tried to dress them in Button Arcade that the Mondie twins (Henrietta and Frederica) will only wear vintage Skipper (so far they have one dress each!). Everything else we pretty much mix and match – although I do try and have one special dress or outfit for each of the girls – that represents their preferences.
