QOTW: Where do you buy your dolls?

There are so many options these days when it comes to where you can buy your dolls. When I first started in the Blythe hobby, the options that I knew about was a physical retail store in the Metro Vancouver area, This is Blythe forum, and eBay. It has ballooned into so much more now that there are Asia-based retail shops that have opened up to international online purchasers (Junie Moon, I’m referring to you!) that there are a lot more options now. Another big game changer to the world of buying (and selling) Blythe dolls has been Facebook. There’s been more and more Facebook groups popping up that are related to buying and selling Blythes (often they have words like “adoption” in the title), there’s just a lot of avenues that you can look at for buying and selling dolls now.

The last doll I purchased was actually from a member of my local doll group, but before that it was a doll I first saw on Facebook (and then brokered the deal via Facebook messenger). Prior to that though, the majority of my dolls have been purchased via forum posts (Blythe Kingdom), or eBay. I guess in a way I’m a bit old school when it comes to buying dolls online, but I’ve also slowed down quite a bit when it comes to buying new dolls because I’ve become a bit more picky about which doll gets added into the doll family these days. There’s not that much room left that I can afford to just add any doll to the family.

Where do you buy your dolls?

I bought my very first Neo Blythe directly at the brick and mortar Junie Moon shop at Daikanyama during my first visit to Japan. Nothing beats that experience of having a large display of dolls before you and seeing them physically before deciding which to buy. The rest of my dolls have come from trusted online stores, most of them based in Japan like AmiAmi or Hobby Link. I’ve never used sites like eBay or forums.

I’ve purchased from pretty much everywhere, no two are from the same shop, but never from a brick and mortar shop I just can’t find one in 🙁 would live to know if anyone knows of a place

My Kenner was from the blythe lovers UK Facebook group, all my neos and one petite came from cctoys eBay store, my three other petites are all from eBay and my factory girl that I have just finished customising was from an eBay store based in China. So a mix of everything really (except a brick and mortar store – no blythe retailers in the UK ????)

I got my first Blythe secondhand on Plastic Paradise (now Blythe Kingdom), my second from a friend who was interested in rehoming her, my third was on BK, and my fourth from a different friend who was rehoming one of her girls. The only time I’ve used an actual vendor was my Middie, who I pre-ordered on Hobby Link Japan’s website.

My first was from a local collector at a local forum (long long ago when almost no one knew Blythe in my country of origin and even the PayPal was new there). The second one from the LJ community, a deal with a Scandinavian collector. My third is from Japan, a full stock MIB doll I won really cheap on Ebay. The fourth is from Japan as well, an NRFB now. And the last one is from UK, got her nude from a doll collector on Facebook in a stock doll adoptions group. So many sources!

Do you still have that shop in Vancouver? Are the prices scary? 🙂
