Being Grateful for What I Have

Group shot! - December 15 2012

Pretty dolls, warmth in the winter, food on the table, access to healthcare and education, & the best thing of all: really good friends. Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of reflecting to realize what you have makes you plenty rich in the grand scheme of things. Yes, it is always nice to want more dolls and more things – but sometimes it’s nice to take a moment to look at what you do have and the important part of life, and the hobby itself.

Specs or No Specs?

I wear glasses and I have since the age of 8 or 9. My dolls, while they don’t get eye tests, get glasses. I think Blythes look cute with glasses – clear or tinted. Like with people, I think that glasses add to the personality to Blythe like they do with people. While not all of my dolls wear glasses all the time, I do have one that frequently has glasses on.

My little Belarus - April 14 2012 Who's that girl?

Glasses aren’t for everyone though, and if you have a custom doll you may be unwilling to put glasses against your doll’s face due to the fact that it could scratch the face-up and I don’t blame you. I don’t put glasses (sunglasses or otherwise) on my custom girl because I get worried about scratching her face. I’m less worried about stock dolls because there’s no sealant or customized make-up.

Do your dolls wear glasses or do you refrain from putting glasses onto your dolls for whatever reason?

Celebrating Birthdays

I don’t always remember when my dolls arrived to my house. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. I’ve remembered a birthday here and there, but I generally don’t make it a point to do anything for my dolls’ birthdays. With twelve girls and a bunch of (human) friends and family, I have a hard time remember when other people’s birthdays are and the dates the girls arrived.

Yesterday (the 4th) marked the anniversary of when I received Moxie (Simply Bubble Boom). In the year she’s been here, Moxie got herself a fraternal twin sister (Mollie – Simply Sparkly Spark) who has a different birthday, went on a road trip and got herself some new chips!

If not Blythe, then what?

Sometimes I think about how my life would be different if Blythe wasn’t in my life.

For starters, I probably wouldn’t have had the need to get storage options just for dolly clothes, shoes, accessories… I certainly wouldn’t have had to make room on my desk to display the bulk of my collection. I wouldn’t spend so much time on forums, crafting sites, sifting through thrift store toys or watching auctions on eBay.

Let’s face it, if it weren’t for Blythe – I’d probably have a lot more spending money than I currently do.

Then I think about what I would do with all this time and money if I didn’t have Blythe to fret over. And the likely answer would probably be bumming around on Facebook or forums, and spending money on things for me or school. Before Blythe, I had an extensive stash (collection?) of yarn – after Blythe I’ve added to this extensive stash of yarn. Some things remain the same – I’d probably just have more of it.

If you didn’t have Blythe in your life, how would you spend your time and money differently?

From my doll family to yours, I hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!

Lily & Emmalynn look a wee bit concerned - Halloween Meet

I had my Kenners dressed up for a Halloween meet that happened over the weekend. Emmalynn (redhead) is Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, Lily (blonde) is Cinderella who’s missing a shoe and Prim (brunette) is Medusa.
