Age is just a number

I recently celebrated a birthday – I’m now 21 and can legally do all the legal-things a person can do in all countries (barring the ones where women are viewed as objects and whatnot, in which case I’m pretty sure I’d need to seek signed and notarized permission to breathe, let alone blog) which is pretty awesome. I’ve been “in” the Blythe hobby officially since I was 19 and purchased Sophie, my Cappuccino Chat, at a small little store that no longer exists.

For me, Blythe’s been a nice constant to have around. I love my dolls, I love sewing new dresses for them, knitting them things, crocheting things for them. I’ve gotten to know a lot of people because of Blythe, participated in some swaps,  pushed myself to do new things (like picking up sewing again) and I opened this blog. Did I know what I was getting myself into? Not really. I genuinely sort of believed that I could only have one Blythe. I honestly thought that I would make all of my dolls’ clothing by myself (how wrong I was…). But I also thought that I would be one of those people with a gazillion pair of doll shoes and there’s actually nobody wearing shoes at the moment – not even me!

So if you wanted to share, I was wondering…

  • How old are you?
  • When did you start in the Blythe hobby?
  • What thoughts did you have at the beginning that you now realize are wrong?

I also just turned 21! Uhh, scary, I am an all-round adult now… I got my first Blythe for my 18th birthday so it’s been three years of me being in the hobby *properly*, plus another two for hovering on the outskirts! I love that it’s stayed with me, as everything else seems to have changed so quickly over the past three years.

I genuinely also believed I’d just have the one to pamper. Urrrr, optimistic! I was all about the sewing (which I really haven’t stuck to!) but actually have managed to stick to doing all the customising myself. One small victory! I certainly didn’t think I’d be pouring this much money into the hobby, haha!

I’m 39 years young, and started collecting a little over a year ago. I bought two Blythes for myself on my birthday, a Saffy encore, and a PCM.

I, too, thought I would sew all the clothes for my girls. Funny, I’ve hardly made anything for them! I also thought I’d only have those two girls, but neither one are still with me. I now have a small-ish family of 6 girls, with one more on the way.

I’m 19 and got into it a few months ago. I used to think it was really silly for some reason but then I started to find it soothing, healing my inner child.

I am 51! and bought my Blythes at the start of the month for my birthday. I’m suffering newbie enthusiasm & have 3 home and 2 on their way, although I fear Roxy was stolen off my porch (remember registered mail)! I’m savoring the memonet, learning about these gorgeous girls, & am old enough to vaguely remember the original beauties!

I’m 19 and started just a few months ago…My family laughs, and even my little sister cracks jokes, and people at work say it’s weird. But, it makes me happy…and that’s all that matters. =D
