Question of the Week: Stock Shine or Matte?

Besides a selection of matte BLs and FBLs, most Blythes are shiny, shiny, shiny. Some are shinier than others (some are too shiny!) but we either embrace the shine or do something about it. Some people use a spray to matte the dolls, others use sanding sponges. Regardless of what you do, most Blythes start out shiny.

My dolls are all shiny (my RBLs are shinier than my EBLs!). I can’t bring myself to spray them with something and I really cannot bring myself to sand matte them! But I do adore the look of matted dolls, especially in photos because you don’t see people’s cameras or windows or doors or other things reflecting off of Blythe’s big forehead.

Like in the photo, my bedroom window is reflecting off of my doll’s forehead (Sophie – Cappuccino Chat). I get that a lot, especially whenever my window’s around and not blocked (but I do love me some natural light!).

Do you prefer stock-shiny Blythes or matte Blythes?

I like them “toy-shiny”! all my dolls assume their “toyhood”.

I prefer them matte, especially for pictures, but just like you I can’t touch them because I feel like I’m gonna do some sort of mess… and so both my Blythe and my clone are shinyyyyy…

I have to say this is one issue where I’m torn. I love the shiny look when I’m just looking at a girl, but for taking photographs I much prefer matte. So hard to choose!

I sand matte my dolls foreheads and chin, ever so slightly, they still have shiny parts on their face but I don’t like the big shiny forehead.

I have half and half. Haha. I’m too scared to touch my first Blythe, Cassie, my Mondie (hello, expensive mishaps!) and my T42. Three custom/slight custom girls are sanded/matted. Like them all about the same (except the obvious favortism that Cass and Fawn get in general)

I HATE the shine! My friend just sent me a Magic Sponge and I’m going to slightly matt them. I’m too afraid to use the sand paper-y stuff and I’ve heard the MSC isn’t that great if they’re played with. And my girls have a tendency to fall over, and like to go outside. Hopefully it matts them enough to avoid that camera glare.

Stock. I think it’s sweet but I have two customs that are sand matted and they are easier to photograph.
