QOTW: How many is too many?

There are times when I see photos of people’s doll family photos (or collection photos, for those that don’t refer to their collection as a family like I do) and wonder if I would ever want to have that many dolls. I’m actually quite happy with the extent of my collection so far. I have nice mix of a ‘little bit of everything’ – including customs, which I honestly at one point never thought I would want or need. At this time, I’m mostly wanting to add a BL into the mix (a stock or mostly stock one), although I’m waiting on that one for a bit as I just need to save/have funds available before biting the bullet there.

I realized recently that this was my last dolly family photo that I had taken:

And it really needed to be updated, so I took another one because it was missing some new members:

20150518b

The dolls are organized according to arrival.

Back row: Sophie (Cappuccino Chat), Belarus (Love Mission), Tertiary Jane (Simply Peppermint), Bennett (Margaret Meets Ladybug), Eden Mouse (Punkaholic People), and Kindred (Velvet Minuet). Middle row: Emmalynn (Kenner), Moxie (Simply Bubble Boom), Molybdenum (Simply Sparkly Spark), Lillian Rose (Kenner), Primrose (Kenner), and Halo (RBL custom by Friends With Blythe). Sitting on the sides: Kitty Brighton (Jackie Ramone), Cedar (Monique Magnifique), Minnow (Hi-Ho! Marine), Cameo (RBL custom by Friends With Blythe), and Lydia Melbourne (Yellow Marshmallow)

I have 3 Kenners, 12 Neos, 2 Middies, and 2 Petites (LPS). That’s 19 dolls altogether that are of the Blythe variety (my non-Blythe dolls aren’t being counted here). I didn’t include either Petite in the photo – not because they’re not important, but (sorta) because I may had forgotten then when I was putting the dolls together for this photo. You know you might have too any dolls when you begin to forget some… Is that too many? Some people would probably say it is, others are probably shaking their heads at me going Michelle, you haven’t hit too many until you’ve broke through the triple digits. If I had 100+ Blythes, where would I even put them all?! (If I could afford 100+ Blythes, I’d probably have more shelf space. And a doll room. Or two.)

How many Blythes are too many Blythes (for you)?

I thought I was only going to have one…I have around seventy including a few fakes and five customs. I really love shiny stock girls! Addicted!

I consider myself more of an enthusiast than a collector. I have two Takaras, one ADG, one Middie, one LPS on a PN body and a MSD doll. Budgets being what they are, I typically sew my own clothes and make furnishings, etc. When I’m tempted to buy another doll, I simply remind myself that she will be another one to sew for. Works every time, lol. Now, if I win the lottery, that attitude would probably change dramatically!!!

There is no such thing as too many. I’d collect all of them if I had the money.

I must confess that my doll collection has grown so fast that I’ve run out of space to put them. They have literally kicked me out of my own room, but I don’t mind and that won’t stop me from expanding the family to infinity and beyond. However, to the eyes of my parents, I have too many dolls now, but I don’t see it that way. I don’t have too many dolls, I just have a very tiny bedroom 😀

I have ten, including 1 Middie and 1 Custom (and another in pieces in a box!). I would like to cut down a little, as I feel I don’t enjoy them as much individually anymore. My perfect family would be my Rei, Royal Soliloquy, Mondie, and Parson Grace with a really cute custom. They say less is more! ^_^

I have 12 Neos, 2 TBLs, and a Middie, and for me, I probably have too many! I have such limited space and they take up a lot of what I have, and that is my most major issue with having that number. I’m pretty sure I would like to downsize but I find it hard to move towards doing so… especially since I realize that it’s likely I would still acquire another doll or two in the future, if I like them, thus arriving back at square one in terms of space issues, haha.

To each their own, but I think if you have more dolls than space or more than you can devote attention to, then maybe that’s too many. Really though, whatever floats your boat. I have 3 Neos, 2 TBLs, a middle and a petite. I want like, 15 more! I love the way they look displayed together but at some point a person could have so many that none of them stand out!
