QOTW: Do you play favourites?

Who's that girl?

I try not to. I really do. It’s hard not to play favourites though. I look at my dolls and I do have favourites. There are some that I would rescue before others if I could only grab two on my way out of a house fire (touch wood). Of course, if I had all the time in the world, I would grab all of them on my way out.  I would also have a laundry basket just to swoop them all in along with other necessities that I’d need. But I play favourites. And I’m sure I’m not the only person to do so either… At least I hope not, or else I’d start feeling bad.

Do you play favourites with your Blythes? (Who’s your favourite?)

Question of the Week: If someone gave you $10,000 right now…

I love this game. I play it with my sisters all the time when we were growing up and it’s really simple. Just answer the following question:

If someone gave you $10,000 right now and said that you had to spend it on dolls or doll-related things, what would you spend the money on and why?

Question of the Week: Do your dolls have different fashion styles?

My Little Ballerina

I was looking at my dolls and their clothes the other day (of which they have a lot) and I realized that every single one of my dolls was wearing a dress. Not only do I actually have separates (shorts, pants, skirts, tops), but dresses are probably three or four times more plentiful when it comes to the dolls’ closet. After a while, it gets expensive having a wardrobe for just one doll. While I may have pieces that only one doll wears (Eden, I’m looking at you), a lot of the girls do wear clothing that gets worn by others as well. There’s very few individual pieces that don’t get shared. In fact, most of my girls are pretty good about sharing, unless it’s pink (Eden) or somewhat high(er) fashion (Sophie). Picky dolls…

So I was really wondering if some of you have doll families where there are distinctly different fashion styles amongst your dolls, or if they’re all pretty good about mixing and matching items. After all, no one can have as greedy dolls as me, right?

Do your dolls have different fashion styles? Or are they pretty good at sharing?

Question of the Week: Longest amount of time in the same outfit?

A little Bennett love
Bennett was in this dress for at least five months… but I love it on her!

The title can also be retitled as “how lazy are you?”… I say that tongue in cheek, of course.

I was looking at my dolls the other day and I was noticing how one doll had been in the same outfit for at least 6 months. Probably longer And then I paused because it’s not because I don’t like the doll, I do (I love all of my dolls). But then I was considering how one of the other ones had been getting changed pretty much every other day (and this is without being in 365). So it can’t be because I’m lazy… Although I have had all my dolls standing around without clothing changes for months at a time (especially when I’m busy with school). I think the longest one of my dolls have gone without a clothing change might be a year… That sounds bad, but it was the perfect dress for her (still is!).

What is the longest amount of time that one of your dolls have been in the same outfit?

Question of the Week: Are there any “original” names left?

The Kenners, today.

I’ve been spending some time working on my two February acquisitions lately (TLC Kenners that need some work!) and I began to think about doll names. Now the brunette got her name very early on. She ‘spoke’ to me, probably because I wasn’t going to do a lot with her (besides giving her some legs, which I did) and she wasn’t going to go through some big change. I think that’s why she told me her name. But the blonde? She murmured something, but is refusing to confirm her name until after she’s all restored and ready to show herself off to the world.

Non-dolly people are going to think that I’m insane, but you all know what I mean. Personalities and all that.

I was really thinking about how many ‘original’ names there are left (probably a lot), but at the same time…. Does it matter if your Blythe is the only Blythe ever with a certain name? Does it really matter?

I personally don’t think so. I think that dolls could be named anything, and it doesn’t matter. Because what matters is the personality that we give them, the photos, the stories, the way we make them ours. That’s what really matters. I think that a name is just part of the story, but what we inject into the dolls, what we give them, it’s makes a huge difference in how I look at dolls, especially on Flickr.

Sometimes, a doll has an original name, but then it’s like, ehh, there’s no photos, no personality. Then a doll can have a run of the mill name and be so interesting. In part because of her owner, her story, her photos, her personality that’s invoked in the photos. I think, just like with people, names don’t matter as much as a personality does.

That said, Miss Blondie Kenner is still holding out on telling me her name…

Are there any “original” names left in Blytheworld? Does it matter?
