QOTW: Do you take photos of Blythe in public?

June 20th - BlytheCon!

I’ve been collecting Blythe dolls since 2009 and I’m still not particularly comfortable about taking dolls out in public to photograph. I’m a lot better about it when I’m with others, it’s a comforting feeling to be in a group because then it’s really more a social thing that we’re doing – doesn’t everyone whip out a doll on a regular basis to photograph? I’m still shy about it, which I wish I wasn’t. I try to avoid taking photos of my dolls in public when I’m alone though, or even with family members. I think it’s easiest to pull out my dolls when others around me have dolls – safety in numbers!

This is something I’ve thought about, too. I want to feel comfortable, but I often don’t – I feel like people are suspicious of me, somehow. I want to work on getting more comfortable with it!

When I first started Blythe I was very nervous about photographing in public. Finally I realized that 90% of the people out there don’t even notice what I’m doing and if they do they just comment at how interesting the dolls are if they say anything at all.

Now I take them out all the time for photo shoots and pretend that I am an artist working on a super creative project, lol.

Yes – but for some reason I find it Much easier to BiP when I’m on holidays and out of my home city!

Took 2 dolls to Europe in 2011 and we had loads of fun taking photos of them all over the place 🙂

Agree – most people don’t even notice, children see the dolls but most adults don’t or they pretend they haven’t !?

I have always been the “weird kid” in this town (even though I am 44 years old now)….people don’t even bat an eyelash when they see me out and about with the girls.

Plus, when I meet someone who doesn’t know me or the girls, every experience has been good. People are interested in them and I answer all their questions.

I’m more likely to take a doll on vacation with me to photograph than to just take her around town with me. However, my husband is always telling me to bring a girl along wherever we go because HE actually likes taking photos of my dolls in public.

Ha! I’m more embarrassed to have to take my photos with a cell phone rather than a nice camera than I am at the subject matter. Every time I’ve saved up for a good camera, something brakes around here that I have to replace.
