QOTW: Buying NFRB, minty, or bait dolls?

I confess, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to Blythe. Then again, Blythes aren’t a necessity of daily living, so I guess we’re all a bit spoiled in that regard when it comes to being able to own the luxury that is Blythe…

Of all of my Neo Blythes only two were bought second-hand/used – the first being my Velvet Minuet, Kindred, and the second being my mohair Friends with Blythe custom, Halo. All of the rest of them? They were all NRFB. Which led me to thinking – I’m probably not in the norm when it comes to Blythe collectors, or there wouldn’t be such a busy doll marketplace for used and customized Blythes. So clearly if I’m not in the norm, I must be the odd one out. Which leads to more thinking about the idea of who buys what kind of dolls.

A little Halo love

I have 11 Neos – 2 were secondhand (stock used and customized), 9 were NRFB (never removed from box) and I had the pleasure of taking off all that tape. I also have 3 Kenners – all of which were bought used and definitely not with stock clothing or boxes. Oh, and 1 Middie that was NRFB, and 2 Petites (one used, one NRFB – both gifts).

Do I just love to torture myself with a bunch of tape, ties and really bad box hair?

The answer is: probably.

Do you buy NRFB, minty, or bait dolls?

I’m new to blythe collecting. Currently, I have in possession two NRFB, until I purchased them..now they let it all hang out ;-p I have one tbl. Now, I as far as custom… I haven’t received my first yet, but she is one the way currently. She was a tbl. I also have 2 more customs that I’ll have in my possession by mid may. One customized from a stock blythe and one being from a tbl.
Sooo.. I’m all over the place. I don’t know if as I become a more experienced collector that will change? Right now, I’ve just gone for what calls my name. I do like both stock and custom. I don’t think I’ll have a problem if I buy a stock second hand, but who knows. It feels pretty nice opening a fresh from the box dolly. Hopefully, I’ll have that same special feeling when my customs arrive and i open those. The one thing I think I’d like in both buying a custom or second hand, is that they have some kind of clothing on..lol. It kind of bugs me the thought of them being naked!

Oh I love those baity girls – bald and missing chips? Gimme gimme!!

Of course there’s something wonderful about unwrapping a brand new girl, carefully opening the box and removing the little bits of tape and accessories – like birthdays or Christmas – however, I do take a deep delight in “rescuing” a doll that has been neglected, mistreated or cast aside 😛

Both. All. Whoever “calls my name” (great phrase, Karrie). I don’t mind if they’re naked either. Once they here, they’re mine. For some reason, I find it harder to unbox NRFB girls, even if I’ve wanted and saved for them for a while before committing. Currently I have 4 unboxed girls, all girls that I fell in love with right from the start! Crazy, eh 🙂
