Who Lives Here: Emmalynn

Who Lives Here is a little feature on BlytheLife to shine the spotlight on the dolls that live with me! Here’s to you, and me, getting to know my dolls a little bit better.

This is Emmalynn. She was Blythe #7 and Kenner #1 – she was also the first Blythe I won via auction on eBay. She’s not the most perfect Kenner, but who is really? I find Kenners are interesting in that they all have their own quirks. Emmalynn came to me with a pelvis crack (so both of her legs were able to pop out at will), messy hair, and general dishevelment.

But she was all mine. I had a summer job the year that I got Emmalynn, and I worked a lot of overtime. I fell in love with Kenners after attending BlytheCon Portland in 2011 because I got to see Kenners in person for the first time ever. So that summer after the convention, I worked (a lot) and saved all of my OT pay towards a Kenner. It worked out well, because that was “extra” money that I wasn’t setting aside for school expenses. It was, in a sense, fun money. And what better fun than a new-to-me Kenner?

20160413b

I actually did all of the restoration on Emmalynn myself. I detailed her arrival and restoration on BlytheLife over a series of posts: 1, 2, 3, 4.

Emmalynn is my only Kenner that is 100% Kenner – Primrose and Lily both have Takara Blythe pelvises and legs due to them only having one leg between the two of them when I got them. She has all of her eye lashes, and a sparkling personality that I love. She’s one of my favourites for a very good reason. She does have some flaws still, but there are things that I don’t focus on because of her delightful presence in my life. I really enjoy my Kenners, and Emmalynn is no exception!

This is Cameo. She is Blythe #15 of 15 in the doll family (if we are not counting Middies… and we are not counting Middies).

Cameo’s name with her previous owner was Lola, which I opted to change because that’s what I do. I opted for Cameo because I thought it’d be nice if she and Halo (my first Friends With Blythe custom) shared names from the same origin (Greek). She arrived just over a year ago, on August 30th, 2014. She happens to be my second custom doll, and my second Friends With Blythe custom. Her base doll was Ichigo Heaven (RBL) and she is my only full-size Blythe with pink hair. Cameo is, however, not my only dolly with pink hair as Lydia Melbourne (Yellow Marshmallow – Middie) has pink and white hair.

I happened to snag a kitty covered Plastic Fashion dress in 2014 and the first Blythe to wear it was Cameo. It was after I put it on her in September that I decided that she was a cat lady. She will wear other clothing, she isn’t set on wearing clothing covered in cats (not like Eden Mouse with pink!), but she’s just so cute in kitty clothes!

While she has been in the family for a year, I haven’t quite sussed out much of her personality aside from the fact that she really likes cats. She may also like Neko Atsume (because I really like it!), she’s not terribly fond of the colour pink (much to Eden’s pleasure), and I feel like she is just fairly easy going overall. It probably helps that she was verbally assaulted by Eden upon first arrival due to the pink.

20150904b

I briefly considered using Cameo for my third attempt at 365, but I also realized that if I did choose her that I’d be tempted to buy all the cat themed doll clothes and that wouldn’t be feasible right now (even though it’d be really cute).

What really drew me to Cameo when I first saw photos of her was her hair and the beautiful custom work – her pink freckles! I love her itty bitty pink freckles! There’s just something wonderful about her and I love being about to look up from my laptop and see her hanging out on my shelf. She’s just a very bright and positive Blythe to have around and that makes her awesome.

Cameo’s wearing: top/Dutch Blythe Fashion, leggings/Endangered Sissy.
Halo’s wearing: dress/unknown.
Lydia Melbourne’s wearing: dress/chelleshocks.

Who Lives Here: Tertiary Jane

Who Lives Here is a little feature on BlytheLife to shine the spotlight on the dolls that live with me! Here’s to you, and me, getting to know my dolls a little bit better.

This is Tertiary Jane. She is a mostly stock Simply Peppermint that arrived on November 28th, 2009. She was a belated birthday and early Christmas present from my parents.

20150522a

At the time, I was taking an organic chemistry course as part of my undergrad and while I didn’t do very well in organic chemistry, I found the topic fascinating. This is why ‘tertiary’ is part of her name, she is in part named for (or after) tertiary carbons because why not? I thought it was cute, and the name just sort of stuck after it was spoken out loud. She is also my third Blythe, so maybe that had something to do with it to – although secondary and quarternary never popped up in my naming schemes.

20150522b

I’m not very big on doing customizations. T. Jane has had a few eye chip changes (stock blues for Brainworm’s Turquoise, and stock greens for Brainworm’s Apple). She also has sleepy eyes and has some charms. She’s still on her stock body, which she’ll remain on because of reasons. I loved her so much more the moment I put her turquoise chips in, just look at how great they go with her hair!

20150522c

Her overall general ‘feel’, to me, is a general sense of geekiness. She had to be, what with her name and all! T. Jane is primarily into biology and fibre crafts (knitting and crocheting), much like me. I like bestowing different aspects of my personality onto my dolls when doing photo stories. T. Jane is, in essence, the geek girl that is so much more outward about it to the rest of the world than I am on a regular basis.

I hope you’ve enjoyed meeting Tertiary Jane!

Who Lives Here: Belarus

Who Lives Here is a little feature on BlytheLife to shine the spotlight on the dolls that live with me! Here’s to you, and me, getting to know my dolls a little bit better.

In this installment of Who Lives Here, I’d like to introduce you all to Belarus. Hi, Belarus!

20141003a

Belarus is wearing ericaduh.

Belarus has the honour of being my second Blythe, my first EBL, and one of the only dolls that I have ever bought that had a name before arriving at home. Belarus is named for the country for no other reason than the fact that I liked how it sounded.

Since the beginning, she’s been the calmer of the two dolls that I had (the first being Sophie). She had to be, given that she was assaulted straight of the box for her shoes. She arrived in July 2009 and is, essentially, my mini-me. The personality that I had given her was that of a girl who loved technology – she loves video games, comic books, and she is the resident designer for BlytheLife (but she kindly allows me to have some credit as well).

20141003b

In terms of looks, she is definitely my mini-me. I too have long, straight black hair, with a centre part. The only thing that is different is that I have brown eyes and she does not. I’ve thought about swapping out one of her stock eyechip sets for a brown pair, but I love the EBL eyechip colours too much – especially the pinks.

20141003c

What I absolutely love about EBLs is the fact that they have wispy eyelashes, and the painted rings on their eyeballs to give their eyes a bit of depth, as well as the fact that their pinks are just so much more prettier than the standard stock pinks that you see dolls with nowadays (even though I love those ones as well). The only customization that I have done with Belarus is switching out her pullstring for a new one because her old string was fraying, so now she has a black string (and a black pullring). She still hasn’t been open yet, which was a challenge all on its own.

I hope you enjoyed getting to meet Belarus!

Who Lives Here: Mollie & Moxie

Who Lives Here is a little feature on BlytheLife to shine the spotlight on the dolls that live with me! Here’s to you, and me, getting to know my dolls a little bit better.

In this installment, we have my fraternal dolly twins: Mollie and Moxie.

20140822c

Moxie, a Simply Bubble Boom, has a birthday of December 3 2012 while Mollie, a Simply Sparkly Spark, has birthday of December 24 2012. But they are twins, even with different birthdays. Very fraternal, very separate twins. If I ever get Simply Thumpty Thump, they will suddenly become triplets. Or something (Thumpty Thump isn’t really on my radar right now, although she may be if I ever decide to complete my ‘rainbow’).

20140822b

Moxie is my lovable film enthusiast. She wears bold prints, or shades of gray (not the fifty shades kind…). She adores film noir and anything with Humphrey Bogart (much like me! Casablanca, anyone?). Despite her vivid personality, I don’t photograph her nearly as much as I could (which does make me sad, I don’t need a lecture). She also enjoys science fiction, and would love one day go traveling with the the Doctor, or walk through a Stargate.

20140822a

Mollie, which is short for Molybdenum (element #42), naturally enjoys chemistry, science, learning and technology. Essentially, she is the nerdy side of me in doll form. I jokingly wanted to name her “42”, even though is most definitely not my 42nd Blythe, because that is the answer for everything. But 42 also corresponds to the element molybdenum, which makes for a pretty awesome name. For regular day, her name is Mollie. When she causes a lab accident, I call her Molybdenum. Loudly.

20140822d

What I love about bestowing personalities onto my dolls is that all of their personalities, generally speaking, reflect a little bit of me. Sometimes it’s a little bit ‘louder’ in my dolls, or a bigger part of them in comparison to other aspects of their personalities, but it’s fun. Through Moxie, I share my love for film noir and science fiction television shows, and through Mollie there’s my love for science – in her name and in her likes.
