Question of the Week: Do people in your life know how much Blythe costs?

It’s generally frowned upon to discuss money in public. After all, finances are personal, right? But the cost of Blythe, regardless of how you may fudge the number, is still high. I’m not writing this to call anyone out. Some people have arrangements for monthly ‘fun’ money. Or they just take care of their own personal money after joint bills and necessities are paid for. Some people post publicly about lying to their spouse/partner about how much their doll hobby costs. The idea of this seems odd, unless you actually use money that you can afford to use for entertainment purposes. But if you can afford it, and you’re using the money, how do you justify the cost of it when you’re balancing the chequebook?

I see posts online from people in the doll hobby who will say that they lied about the total cost of a doll to their husband, even going so far as to only disclose half of the cost. That’s a lot of money to be lying about, especially for a hobby that’s not a necessity. It’s one thing to joke about how shh, don’t tell the spouse how much the new doll cost! But it’s entirely an other to actually lie about it. Full disclosure is the best policy.

But if you have no spouse/partner or anyone who depends on you to tell the truth about the money and you can afford it…

I live at home (I commute to school) and my parents know how much Blythe costs (in fact, they’re the reason why I have four out of nine!). My boyfriend (whom I do not live with) knows how much Blythe costs because he’s seen me looking at auction listings on his computer before. My top financial responsibility is my tuition. But fun money? Yeah, I spend it on Blythe (well, and other things to, but this is BlytheLife.com, after all!).

I could never, ever lie to my husband. He knows exactly how much each and every one of my dolls cost. He knows that I want a $700 or so Kozy. He also thinks I’m crazy.

My mom knows, and my friends that aren’t in the Blythe hobby know. My coworkers know I have an “expensive, weird doll hobby.” 😉 I’m not a very private person…

No one really knows. No one asks, so I don’t volunteer the information! I’m single, and I take care of my own finances. My boyfriend and parents just don’t care how I spend my money, as long as I’m taking care of all obligations. If they asked, I would probably tell them general figures, like “around $100,” which is about what each of my Blythes cost me. One was an eBay steal, and I split the stock on my MW AND got her for a very cheap price on eBay.

PS: Single meaning not married- my boyfriend of 4 years wouldn’t like me telling the world I’m “single!”

I am SO guilty of this… I have gone as far as to tell my boyfriend that a $300 doll was practically given to me… another that I have been making layaway payments on for my last 3 paychecks, he won’t know about it until the doll arrives!
I live with my boyfriend, so we share costs of rent, food, gas, internet bills… but my financial responsibilities have always come first. I have never been short for rent, and I know that’s all her really cares about.
He knows the cost of the hobby, and while he thinks I’m a little insane, he’s fine as long as my responsibilities come first. That doesn’t mean that I don’t spare him the details! If I disclose, or bend the truth, it’s not for financial reasons, but for emotional… I’m never worried about him being angry…. I’d just like to save myself from his inevitable eye-roll!
I can’t expect him to understand, because it’s not something I know he’d ever want to justify spending his own money on…. but I know that he pours quite a lot of money into his car hobby! 😉

Howdy! I just wish to offer you a huge thumbs up for your great info you have got here on this post.
I’ll be coming back to your site for more soon.

No matter if some one searches for his essential thing, therefore
he/she desires to be available that in detail, thus that thing is maintained over here.

  7. webpage says:

The amount of space that can be saved will provide
maximum gains to the firm. It weighs five pounds, less than a
four-season tent, and consists of a form to build blocks of
snow. Opt-in building is a tedious work but with amazing results.
