Thoughts on sewing snaps

A couple of days ago, my sister saw me organizing doll clothes – one of the many things that I do when procrastinating from studying… and she noticed that I had several dresses that I had made for my dolls lacked snaps and then she pointed this out to me.

“If you had the time to cut out the fabric and sew all these things up, why didn’t you add snaps?”

Umm… Because I was lazy? Because the dress stays on (for the most part) without a snap? Because snaps were designed by the devil? Did I say any of these things? Of course not.

“Oh, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I’ve been busy.”

Yes, because lack of time totally prevents me from sewing on tiny metal snaps. Although, to be fair, the snaps do kind of “complete” the clothing item. But I still believe that they were designed by the devil, or that little elves should help me with the sewing of snaps because I don’t like doing that part. But my sister took this to be the truth, until she found one of the Blythe dresses that I had made that I sewn on half of the snap and just never sewed the other half of the snap.

“What about this one?”

“That one? I was just lazy.”

Who else here hates (or at least dislikes) sewing on metal snaps? *both hands up for me*

  1. I have to agree, snaps were made up by the devil! I’m also thinking he came up with bras but that’s a whole other story. 🙂 I actually love putting snaps on because they just make the dress or whatever so cute, but I have carpal tunnel and have had to quit putting snaps on my outfits and use velcro. If I sew snaps on my hands cramp up and go numb and hurt for days. Just my two cents.

I use the stick on velcro where ever possible just to avoid sewing snaps, especially on stuff that is staying in my own personal collection. If I am sewing something for a swap or commission, I will definately FORCE myself to sew on a snap if its more appropriate for the project, but I grumble about it the whole time!

Hahah I rarely get around to putting snaps on clothes made for my dolls! I detest sewing them on EVEN MORE than I hate sewing in ends on crochet/knit items. That is a LOT of hatred, right there 😛

I hate that I can never sew a snap on and make it look cute… it is always a mess of thread. Yuk.

It just takes to long to sew snaps on, I do it on all my doll clothes. But at the moment I have like 5 bits of clothing waiting to have snaps attatched.

My dollie clothes probably look much like yours, because I have a TON of items that I just never bothered to sew them on. I will sew snaps on an outfit for someone else. When I list clothes on etsy, I don’t sew snaps until they sell (why go through that hell if no one even wants it anyway?!)

I never sew on snaps to things I make for myself, I hate those things. If I’m making something for another person I will force myself to add them.

So glad to hear I’m not alone on this one! Although I do love it when I go through the trouble of sewing on a snap and actually finish the project. They really are a pain. But without them it’s just not finished. And I don’t like that looming over my head;) Too bad you can’t just stick them on!
