You know the time I’m talking about – where you wistfully look at live feeds of BlytheCon (and other similar events that are differently named) on the internet, where you wish you were present for some amazing raffles, the fun marketplaces, and just getting to see friends of old and making new friends – all bonding over the lovely eye changing doll that we all know and love.
From now until October there is a major event each month!
And do you know how many of these events I’ll be attending? (Trick question because the answer is none of them.)
Real life trumps vacationing, I’m afraid, at least for now! I’m hoping finances and time (it’ll be mostly time…) allows for vacationing in 2017. There was recently a poll that happened on Facebook for the new 2017 host city for BlytheCon US and the doll community (on Facebook) voted for Brooklyn, New York. This time (well, for 5 months, anyways), I will be home and enjoying watching the festivities on the internet. Hopefully my friends will give a little wave to me on the live streams, if there are any! Last summer was very different, what with being very busy with planning for BlytheCon Vancouver and juggling that with being unemployed – it really is amazing what a difference a year makes!
If you’re attending any of the above events, I’d love to invite you to write about your experience for BlytheLife! Please email me if you’re interested in sharing your Blythe event experience!

It’s a month from BlytheLife.com’s 6th birthday and I have a weird goal in mind. I would be pretty stoked if BlytheLife.com hit 1000 likes on Facebook. Of course, this means an additional 167 likes between now and July 1st. It’s a lofty goal, to be sure, but I don’t think that it’s entirely impossible. It’s really a “go big or go home” type of goal, but not that I’d be upping and leaving the internet if it’s not met.
If 1000 is met (or even surpassed? I’m really reaching here now!), I’ll have a stellar giveaway planned for the birth month of BlytheLife. Although, to be fair, if it’s not met, there will still be a pretty amazing giveaway planned for BlytheLife in July! So if you haven’t already, head on over to Facebook to hit ‘like’ if you like BlytheLife! Bonus, you’ll be helping an amazing giveaway come to life in a month!

Filed under: Question of the Week
This question is really akin to asking you who your favourite doll is, because let’s face it – unless you’re particular in your purchasing goals, chances are you have dolls of various mold types.
Bennett (Margaret Meets Ladybug) is an EBL.
My current favourite, and this is very likely because Lottie’s the newest, is BL. I love Mondrian and I’m really happy that I have one in my life right now – I so “get” the fascination with the dolls that come naturally matte and boggled. Just love her so much. I am not going to say that my favourite is Kenner because that’s kind of unfair, but let’s consider the post-Kenner face molds: BL, EBL, SBL, RBL, FBL, RBL+, and ADG. What’s your favourite face mold?
Eden Mouse (Punkaholic People) is an RBL.
I’d have to say (quite honestly), that I’m really torn between EBL and RBL. There’s just a sullenness with EBLs that none of the other Blythes have, and then RBLs are just very sweet and have been such a huge constant in the Blythe community since they came into play.
What’s your favourite face mold?

There are often times that I wish I had more time for dolls. The moments when I work a lot in a week, or work mostly nights, results in very little time to devote to the dolls in my life. I wish that was different, but such is life when you exclusively do shift work and often get called for nights.
The moments that I get to spend with my dolls is precious because it’s time that I spend relaxing and enjoying my hobbies. My off-work time is generally for non-work purposes, I try not to think about work or do work related things (which is at times easier said than done). But the moments that I get are often so far and few between, but I still greatly enjoy it because it’s my hobby time!
(Even if my dolls wear the same outfits for weeks or months on end because I really cannot be bothered sometimes to change their outfits, but look at how cute Lottie looks in her dress! She’s been alternating between this one and a Button Arcade dress that I had made for her.)

I will be the first to admit that in the beginning, I didn’t really “get” the appeal of reroots done in natural fibres. This was partly because I was new to the hobby and I just adored my dolls with their ‘natural’ (stock) hair instead, and partly because I had never seen a doll with a natural fibre reroot in person, or had the opportunity to touch/pet a natural reroot. Of course, this all changed once I got to know people in the hobby (and those people let me touch their dolls). An alpaca reroot that a local friend made felt like petting a kitten.
Most of my dolls are (surprise, surprise) stock, but I do have a couple of custom dolls now and two of them have reroots. Halo has a mohair (?) reroot – it’s like a white fluffy cloud on her head. The other is Lark, whom I believe (based on feel) has an alpaca reroot because it feels just like a kitten. And I genuinely still love the stock dolls with their stock hair, but I can’t deny the appeal of reroots made with mohair or alpaca (or other natural fibres!). There’s just an softness to them that cannot be duplicated by synthetic materials, which is what saran and nylon are.
Do you have any dolls with natural fibre reroots? What kind of animal hair is on your dolls’ heads?
