QOTW: Inspirations behind a name?

So last week I posted about trying to decide on a name for my Monique Magnifique. The poor thing had a Flickr set naming her Nameless, after all! How embarrassing is that?! Poor thing, she can’t even show her face.

But luckily for her, I finally decided on a name for her. Internets, please say hello to… Cedar.

It’s a good thing you don’t have kids, lady.

Named for the lovely red cedars that grow in these parts and the fact that she also looks fantastic in green. And therefore she reminds me of a tree.

This is why I should not be allowed to name people or animals. Dolls are okay, because they typically don’t grow to resent you for your poor name choices. Hopefully.

What inspirations draw you to a specific name?

QOTW: Troubles with naming a new girl?

She needs a name!

I posted a few pics of her already on BlytheLife, but I am still having trouble coming up with a name for my Monique Magnifique. I’ve had troubles with deciding names before, but it usually doesn’t take me a long time because names just come to me. Here’s what my other dolls are named:

  • Sophie
  • Belarus
  • Tertiary Jane
  • Bennett
  • Eden Mouse
  • Kindred
  • Emmalynn
  • Moxie
  • Molybdenum (Mollie)
  • Primrose (Prim)
  • Lillian Rose (Lily)
  • Halo
  • Kitty Brighton (Brighton)
  • Nameless Monique Magnifique

Girl still needs a name ;)

Yes, her current name on her Flickr set is Nameless – clearly this is not a name and needs to change. I’m trying to go by names that I think would fit a reddish-haired dolly and it’s difficult! She’s fairly blushy, and with fantastic bangs, I really want a nice name for her, something girly to reflect the style that I think that she has and the personality she may end up with. So far, the front-runners of names are, let me know if you like any of them:

  • Sage
  • Cedar
  • Hollis

Stunner. Still nameless. Loves her.
Who am I? Am I a Sage? Cedar? Hollis?

Have you ever had troubles naming a new girl in the family?

QOTW: Do you have a room box?

xoxo, Sophie.
I don’t know who you think I am, but I do not share rooms with people. Ever.

Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of building or buying a room box. And by lately, I really mean “all the time”. I love the idea of having miniatures and rooms set up, just like I love the idea of having a dollhouse. I love the idea of decorating, having a cute little kitchen set, even set up a bedroom for some of the dolls that are nearest and dearest to my heart (which means, of course, that I’d be making over a dozen bedrooms – unless they deem each other worthy to share!). As I’m currently stuck with the problem of lack of space, I can only dream about what it would be like to have a room box or two (or twenty… or a doll room… that’d be nice to!). It’s definitely one of those “one of these days…” kind of thoughts, yet that still doesn’t stop me from thinking about miniatures and collecting little bits of furniture here and there. It’ll be a very uncoordinated first house for my dolls – much like the furniture that I mostly live with now.

Do you have a room box?

Share a link to a picture if you do! I want to see!

QOTW: What does “bonding” mean to you?

I see the word “bonding” used a lot when it comes to Blythe. People say that they haven’t bonded with a new doll that has arrived, or they’re unable to bond with a stock doll but they can bond with a customized Blythe. To me, bonding means that people become attached to a doll, or have grown to like (or love) a particular Blythe. I can understand why some people don’t bond with stock dolls – they have big shiny foreheads, they can look a little vacant at times. I like doing minor changes to my dolls – eye chip changes, gaze lifting. But some dolls are perfect (to me) as completely stock (Margaret Meets Ladybug, I mean you!). But I “bond” easily with stock dolls, compared to other people. I think there’s a pretty even split in the community – where probably about half of people enjoy customs whereas the other half love their stock dolls. Whatever bonding means to me, I think it’s always a great thing to love the dolls that you have. They’re not inexpensive dolls, it’s important to love what you spend your money on.

What does “bonding” mean to you?

QOTW: Least expensive pair of shoes?

Shoes (contrary to popular belief) do not have to be expensive in the World of Blythe. I have a lot of inexpensive shoes, and you can find inexpensive shoes all over the place. You can find shoes from Skipper, Liv, Francie or Licca that can fit Blythe. My least expensive pair of shoes came from a lot that I bought from a member over at Blythe Kingdom. With that in mind all the pairs technically cost the same, but I enjoy these pairs the most (it worked out to be ~$0.25/pair):

They’re simple, and they’re not particularly flashy or show-stopping, but that is what makes them great because you don’t always need to have shoes that are the most important part of the outfit (contrary to Sophie’s beliefs!).

What is your least expensive pair of Blythe shoes?
