The last Friday of every month is part of a feature on BlytheLife.com, Friday Five. Welcome everyone to this month’s installment! I mention 5 things I love every month.

For the month of December I wanted to share several doll related blogs that I love, that I read and that I recommend. Some of these blogs have been featured before – but they’re just that good.

  1. My Plastic Fantasy – by Alice
  2. 222.org – by Katie
  3. Makie Couture – by Dr Duckie
  4. CraftyGirl* – by Emily
  5. Smidge House – by Carmen

December’s Friday Five will be the last of the regular monthly installments of the column. I will have sporadic Friday Five installments in the future, so it’ll still be around – just not every month. 2013 marks a new year and I have many new  things to showcase on the blog! I hope you’ve enjoyed the Friday Five series.

For the month of November I wanted to spread the love of sites and blog posts that I enjoyed.

  1. Katie from 2:22am.org managed to find the original 1972 television commerical for Kenners (marketed in Australia by Toltoys) and I love it! It’s similar to the American/Kenner video, only with a different narrative voice and a different girl playing with the doll.
  2. BlytheCon 2013 announced the date and venue over the weekend! I know a lot of people are excited over going to NYC next year, so head on over as ticket sales started on November 27th!
  3. Most of us remember when Plastic Paradise came into existence, but did you know it’s come back? The forum that was the basis for Blythe Kingdom is now a forum once again – and it’s all about Blythe and other plastic dolls. Don’t worry, Blythe Kingdom is still around!
  4. In case you missed it, The Guardian published an article about Blythe and BlytheCon UK back in October. Pretty neat to see our favourite doll in the media! I keep showing it to my non-dolly friends. “See! It’s not just me that plays with dolls!”, cue the eye rolls…
  5. Early this month, Fanny Zara of Mademoiselle Blythe did a feature about Black Blythes and I just found it such a fascinating read! The customization process is a step up because of the difficulties with painting the bodies to match the face plates and three customizers shared their tips with Fanny. Very educational and the photos are gorgeous to boot!

For the month of October I wanted to focus on fun crafts that you can do indoors, now that the weather has turned cold (at least around here!). I hope you like what I’ve found helpful!

  1. I came across a YouTube video on how to make a doll (Barbie) sized couch – pretty neat and Blythe can use somewhere to sit, right? The video directions use glue a lot, but you could sew the pillows and cover it a little bit better, but it’s a great tutorial!
  2. If you like to take photos of your Blythe, you might want to consider making a photo backdrop and I found a great tutorial on how to do that.
  3. This tutorial shows you how to make a mohair wig for ‘fashion dolls’, which can be adapted for Blythe’s big noggin! It can also be used for BJDs or other dolls that you have around that need some hair.
  4. For your twins or sisters, you can make a bunk bed for the tired little angels. Here’s the other video mentioned (on making doll bedding).
  5. The last DIY video I have to show you is on crafting a doll vanity! You need to have captions on in order to get the instructions for the tutorial.

Every month’s last Friday (almost every month…) is part of a feature on BlytheLife.com, Friday Five. Welcome everyone to this month’s instalment! I mention 5 things I love every month..

If you have any suggestions for next month’s Friday Five, please don’t hesitate to email me! Maybe you have a site you think that I should feature or a pattern that’s free and up on the web? Tell me!

For the month of September, I found 5 fun doll-related blogs to share! There’s a huge doll world outside of Blythe (it’s true!), and it’s nice to take a look at what other dollies there are out in the world.

  1. Doll Observer is a blog who’s look reminds me of a fashion magazine. It highlights a lot of new happenings in the fashion doll world, one that doesn’t seem to include Blythe. However, for fans of Barbie and Tonner, there’s plenty of visual goodies for you.
  2. BJDs for Beginners is a fun blog. I found it when I first got my BJD (nearly a year ago now, I think!) and it’s a great read. There’s a lot of information about BJDs, more than enough to get you inspired about the resin dollies.
  3. Confessions of a Doll Collectors Daughter is a great blog for those who like looking at photos of dolls. There’s photos of Lalaloopsy, Monster High, special edition Barbies and so much more. The little kid in me loves the amount of photos featured in the blog posts.
  4. The Fashion Doll Review makes me smile. It’s a collaborative ‘ezine’ (blog) and has a lot of information about new releases, particularly of non-Blythe dolls. I like it primarily for the photos.
  5. My Plastic Fantasy has been featured before, but I love it! The writer is also a Blythe collector, but she does showcase photos of many other types of dolls and toys including bjds, Stormtroopers (yes, you read that right!), vinyl figures and more!

For the month of August, I found 5 places on the internet that I kept going back to again and again and I decided to share them with you!

  1. Blythopia.com – the Blythe community’s answer to an easy to read guide to what stock doll is that? Also has great sections on Kenners, Petites and Middies as well as dress sets, shoe sets and accessories that were officially produced by Takara.
  2. Blythe Directory – a great Tumblr website that’s easy to navigate! You can look up various Blythes to see photos, find release information. You can also search via appearance (hair colour), by mold type and by release date. At the time of writing, some details are still missing (particularly under release dates), but you can still find a lot of information regarding various stock Blythes of your choosing!
  3. I’ve been obsessed with looking at photos of Middies lately! For those who are also in love with Middie, there are several Flickr groups – the one I’ve recently joined is called Middie Blythe.
  4. Junko Wong‘s blog has been fun to read in August. It’s bilingual and has lots of fun photos, not necessarily always about Blythe. It’s interesting to see what she has to say about new releases though!
  5. Lastly, I’ve been looking at more and more photos of customized Blythes (uh oh!) and there’s another Flickr group that I frequent as well that’s all for custom Blythes.
