Tiny Shoe Love #9

Today’s shoes are some of my favourite, even if I don’t use them in photos a lot. (And in case this is not your first time reading a installment of Tiny Shoe Love, yes –  I do have a lot of favourites.) These beauties:

Yes, they are skates. These are Simply Sparkly Spark and Simply Bubble Boom’s stock skates. SSS came with the pearl skates and SBB came with the appropriate orange skates. And how cute are they?! Very cute. I’m featuring them now because it’s been very hot where I live (mid to high 20s °C) and I’m dreaming about snow and ice and skating and all things wintery. Summer is not my favourite, I’m afraid. I’m a huge fan of cooler weather – hand knit socks, sweaters, and cute hand knit accessories weather. That is my favorite. Alas, it is nearly officially summer… So while I’m trying to stay hydrated I can admire the adorable skates and think of cooler times.

The skates that came with the trio (I do not have Simply Thumpty Thump, STT came with matching skates, but in violet) are super adorable, I really appreciate the details that are added on. The silver colouring for the blades, the details for the laces. Little added touches like these are what makes doll shoes so very irresistible for me.

I’m still holding out hope that one day Takara will put out another series of shoes sets since I totally missed the boat on the Shoe Cruise Day and Night sets. I kick myself every time I see those cute pink boots on a doll’s feet in photos because I want them a lot.

There are some parts of my dolls shoes collection that comes from my childhood. Not very much of it fits my Blythes, of course, as Barbie has highly arched feet. One pair that did transfer from my childhood shoe collection to my current shoe collection was this pair of red cowboy (cowgirl?) boots.

While cowgirl boots exist nowadays with Barbie dolls, many of the currently produced boots do have ‘Barbie’ written down the sides in cursive. These boots, while not terribly detailed, do lack the brand of the doll they came from, which is nice in a way because I don’t want it to be obvious that they are Barbie boots.

They are super cute and if I had gone to BlytheCon in Dallas back in 2012, I definitely would have had one of my dolls wearing these. I think now they just go well with a simple outfit. The downside to these cute red boots is that I cannot, for the life of me, get them onto a doll while she’s wearing tights – at least not without the tights bunching and stretching out because they are so close fitting.

Tiny shoes are my little loves in the world that is Blythe. They bring me joy, especially when they’re so preciously detailed. This installment of Tiny Shoe Love brings some focus to a pair of Re-Ment heels. This particular pair comes from the Petit Mode Collection: Boots, Shoes & Bags.

The small problem with these shoes is that the details are painted. For instance, that beautiful gold insole? Painted. Paint has a tendency to not play well with Blythe dolls – especially with their legs/feet, which is a unfortunate fact of life.

With that in mind, I always make sure that I don’t keep these heels on my dolls for very long, and I always make sure that they have socks or tights on to be doubly sure that no risk of staining occurs. The last thing I want to do is risk damaging my dolls’ feet for the sake of wearing a pair of cute shoes.

And for some bonus cuteness – they are labelled on the bottom with R and L for right and left, in case you don’t know which foot the shoes should go on.

I love doll shoes, this much is obvious from the fact that the Tiny Shoe Love column exists! In particular, I love shoes that go up the ankle a bit because they stay on that much better.

20150306aMinnow is wearing Plastic Fashion (don’t tell Eden Mouse that she’s wearing this dress!).

I wanted to draw everyone’s attention to these lovely granny boots that are Velvet Minuet stock. Where did the term ‘granny boot’ come from? Granny boots are women’s boots that lace up the front and are reminiscent of high-top boots from the 19th century. The more you know! I find that they, while being official Blythe stock, do fit a wee bit loose. You can see how it gapes just a little bit around the ankles and it does make it easier for them to fall off. Case in point, I held up Minnow (my Hi-Ho! Marine that is modeling these lovely boots) and shook her around and they came flying off. Don’t worry, no dolls were harmed in this process because I held onto the pull ring. I think with normal holding and no shaking, they’ll stay on pretty well though.

Overall my verdict is that they are super cute, probably aren’t the best if you’re going to be outside and not paying attention if the shoes fall off, but they are super cute, and lend a bit of sophisticated air to a doll’s outfit of the day.

Shoes can complete an outfit. This is both true for humans and dolls. Unfortunately for me, I do not own 50+ pairs of shoes for myself. This is a very, very sad fact. Fortunately, doll shoes are amazing because they are small! And I can have many, many, many pairs of doll shoes in the same footprint as a pair of my-sized shoes would be. Foot print. Shoes. Get it? I crack myself up. *crickets*

I wanted to bring everyone’s attention to some simply fantastic boots that I own. These are the stock boots from Art Attack. Not exactly easy to seek out, but they’re pretty awesome. They are great in the fact that they are very easy to get on, because of the long zipper down the back.

Simplicity at its best. It also helps that black and white go so well with so many outfits.
