QOTW: Your “side collections” to Blythe?

Written on August 11, 2014 at 12:00 pm by Michelle
Filed under: Question of the Week

When you collect Blythe, you don’t just collect Blythe. There are the obvious other collections: dresses, shoes, stock items. And then come other little collections that seem to crop up when you don’t realize it. For instance, I have a growing collection of other dolls (Petites, a Middie, a Usaggie, a BJD, some Monster High dolls, and assorted mini Lalaloopsy dolls) that aren’t full-sized Blythe. But my favourite ‘side’ collection when it comes to Blythe collecting? The books. What books, you ask?

So, now that you've got more books...

There’s the usually This is Blythe, and perhaps the Blythe Collection Guide Book. But then I also have Blythe Style, The Doll Scene, and a whole mess of pattern books. I own a few of the Doll Coordinate Recipe books, which I adore even though I don’t read Japanese at all, and I have couple ones on order (shh!). After taking part in a sewing demo and my interests in sewing have gotten a bit of a kick in the pants again so I’m interested in the process of creating more things for my dolls. Oh, and I’ve begun to own books on dollhouses and other such things (I know that 1/12th scale is not the same as play scale (1/6th) but it is still very educational and can be sort of extrapolated!).

What are your side collections that accompany your Blythe collection?

Blythe On A Budget: Framed Art with Cards

What’s a doll collector to do when she has a pile of Moo and business cards collected? Turn it into art! This is an easy little DIY that helps to showcase your favourite Moo cards.

I started this project before BlytheCon Seattle, but I actually did not have enough cards (does this maybe mean that I need to shop more? I think it does!), so I had to wait until I got back to reassess how many beautiful cards I had to use. Lo and behold, I had more than enough (and some extra for the start of another frame!). I mostly used Moo cards for this project, but my next one is definitely going to featuring postcards and traditionally-sized business cards since I have so many of them (and they’re beautiful!). This is an inexpensive project that allows you to make something pretty from the collected cards that you already have on hand, I hope you enjoy. Click to read more of this entry.

BlytheCon Seattle: Recap!

I was unable to attend the Friday panel with Allison Katzman and Junko Wong, or the pre-meet in the park, as I was in Canada. So I won’t be talking about either of those events! I know from hearing people talk about it that both were amazing, and I’m very jealous of everyone who was in Seattle on Friday that was able to do both! There are a lot of photos in this post, so you have been forewarned!

The morning of BlytheCon for me began with a road trip with three lovely ladies who are also from British Columbia. We had quite a wait at the border crossing as everyone else was also heading to BlytheCon as well was headed to the United States as it is a long weekend for us up in Canada (Monday is BC Day for those in BC). So there was that. We arrived to BlytheCon and checked in at around 11am. People were already bustling about and buying All The Things! It took me a little while to get myself settled in – I took out my dolls, got some BlytheCon Vancouver buttons out and kind of went on my way to shop. And shop I did!
