Review: HUSET by IKEA

Huset is Swedish for ‘house’, which is a very appropriate name for one of Ikea’s newest products: a set of doll furniture. I was particularly interested when this article made its rounds throughout the Blythe community. I was interested until I read that it would be 1:15 scale. For those that aren’t aware, Blythe (and Barbie) are 1:6 scale, or play-scale. A lot of dollhouse enthusiasts actually collect in 1:12 scale or smaller. 1:15 is an odd scale for Ikea to choose to use, and it would be much too small for Blythe to use. Turns out, Ikea is horrible at math.

I have been all about needing to put together things lately! Feeling very crafty and finding inspiration in the oddest of places. Last weekend I stopped into a small shop that sells a lot of ‘up-scale’ dollar store goods (most things are priced more than a dollar) and then I nearly skipped past the selection of wooden boxes that they had. They were being marketed as “trinket boxes” and I thought it was cute, until I realized how great it would be to display doll shoes! So go off to your local dollar/dollar plus store and see what kind of divided wooden boxes they have! I’ll be patient and wait for you to get back.

QOTW: Inspirations behind a name?

So last week I posted about trying to decide on a name for my Monique Magnifique. The poor thing had a Flickr set naming her Nameless, after all! How embarrassing is that?! Poor thing, she can’t even show her face.

But luckily for her, I finally decided on a name for her. Internets, please say hello to… Cedar.

It’s a good thing you don’t have kids, lady.

Named for the lovely red cedars that grow in these parts and the fact that she also looks fantastic in green. And therefore she reminds me of a tree.

This is why I should not be allowed to name people or animals. Dolls are okay, because they typically don’t grow to resent you for your poor name choices. Hopefully.

What inspirations draw you to a specific name?
