2015 Blythe Holiday Shopping Guide: Part 2

Welcome to the 2015 Blythe Holiday Shopping Guide! This is part 2 of a 3 part mini-series to help those who are trying to figure out what to buy for themselves, or what to buy for the Blythe-lover in their life. Last week was the $25 and less part of the shopping guide!

Now when I think Blythe, I don’t think that it cost pennies because it is a luxury hobby of sorts. So for the second part of the Holiday Shopping Guide, it will be the ?$100 gift options!

20151127a

1. A full set of hand-painted eyechips for your special someone’s special dolly. Hand-painted chips generally seem to go for about $20-30/set and getting several sets would be quite the gift! There are a lot of options available to you, if you search for hand painted Blythe eye chips on Etsy or Artfire you should be able to come up with quite a bit! I

2. How about a Pure Neemo Flection body with a set of hands? A lot of people like swapping out their dolls’ stock bodies for something with a bit more range of motion – the Pure Neemo fits the bill for a lot of people. The body and hands will solidly set you back about $40-50 or so, especially once you factor in shipping as well. For the best size that matches well with the original Blythe body, a lot of people go with the XS option.

3. There’s also the Licca body for the body swapper in your life. If you buy a Licca doll (complete with outfit), it’ll run you about $20-25 (possibly with additional shipping charges tacked on top). It’s a little underwhelming to get a naked headless doll, so for a nicer presentation I would suggest perhaps getting the full doll (head, shoes, outfit). It looks a bit better, and then your loved one gets another pair of shoes and a dress with it – as well as a head for the stock Blythe body.

4. Does your favourite Blythe collector have a favourite clothing seamstress? A lot of lovely clothing items for Blythe can be found from $25-100 – the holidays are a great time to splurge and get them something that they might not otherwise get the chance to own. While it make seem expensive to pay that much money for a piece of doll clothing, remember that these are all made by hand and you’re not only buying a tiny dress but you are paying for the materials, the time, and the sewing expertise that the person has.

5. Lastly in the under $100 range is Re-ment, which can be cheaper than $100, but perhaps there’s a set that your special someone really wants or you want to buy them the full set so you can ensure that they get all the really neat sets in a collection. It is possible to find full Re-ment sets for under $100, a quick Google search nets me a lot of online retailers. Keep in mind of what kind of things your favourite doll collector seems to enjoy. If they loathe Hello Kitty, it’s probably not the best time to get them a Hello Kitty-themed Re-ment set, just saying. Re-ment can vary a lot in prices, but if you know the collector in your life likes kitchen items or food items or furniture, it can help you narrow down your search to the perfect set.

Welcome to the 2015 Blythe Holiday Shopping Guide! This is part 1 of a 3 part mini-series to help those who are trying to figure out what to buy for themselves, or what to buy for the Blythe-lover in their life. Over the next three weeks, I will be mentioning a few things within a certain price range that I think Blythe lovers would be over the moon about receiving for the upcoming holiday season!

For the first part of the 2015 Blythe Holiday Shopping Guide, I will be looking at things that are $25 USD or less (including shipping, if it’s an online purchase).

1. The Ikea HUSET Bedroom Set – I love this set. I bought it recently for myself and I think it’s pretty sweet. It would be a fantastic gift for someone who owns Middies. For those looking for a gift for someone else, a Middie looks like this:

2. To go with the bedroom set, the Ikea HUSET Living Room Set would be a great addition. This one is a little bit more versatile because it is sized better for the full size Blythe dolls. The white Expedit is one of my favourite pieces. If you don’t think pink is your gift recipient’s favourite colour, you can also go to Etsy and search for custom couch covers.

3. I love storage boxes, and they’re pretty cheap! I get my plastic organizer boxes at Michaels, usually when they are 50% off, for $1.50. So even if you don’t have a coupon, $3 is not a bad deal at all! If you really want to go the extra mile, buy your loved one some doll shoes too!

4. I am a huge fan of tea (I even have a tea blog now!), but what is even more darling is doll sized tea sets. These can be both inexpensive and expensive. You can generally find some sets at dollar stores, you just need to watch the size and make sure they look ‘right’. You can also look on eBay and search for something like “playscale china tea set” or “Barbie china tea set” to get the right sizing – I did a quick search while writing and found a lot of sets that were priced at $10 USD or less, and many of them had free shipping.

Happy shopping! What’s coming up next week? Only time will tell!

Review: HUSET by IKEA (Bedroom Set)

It may have taken Ikea a couple years, but they finally released the next in the HUSET series. Yes, it may be a little confusing that they use the exact same product name but it goes with their general product naming scheme. Huset is Swedish for ‘house’, which still makes it an appropriate name. For the second in Ikea’s HUSET series, popular children bedroom pieces were shrunk down.

HUSET comes with the following: 1 chair, 1 table, 1 bed, 1 wardrobe, 1 blanket, 1 pillow, 1 mat, 1 rug, and 1 plush toy. Excited? Me too! Click to read more of this entry.

Blythe On A Budget: DIY Knit Cowl

With the cooler weather, I think cowls are a wonderful thing. They’re easier to make than scarves, and it’s a lot easier to do things without the ends hanging into things (or food). Somehow this also translates to cowls being a good idea for Blythe, because this is an easy beginner’s knitting project. All you need to know is how to count, how to cast on, how to do the knit stitch, and how to bind off. And if you don’t know how to do any of those things, you can learn online at Knitting Help (except for counting).

You will need:

  • Knitting needles (2.75mm/US2)
  • Fingering or sock weight yarn (small amount, I used Knit Picks Palette)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Directions:

Cast on 12 stitches (I use the long-tail cast-on).

Knit back and forth (garter stitch) until the piece is 15cm (~6″).

Bind off. Seam the edges together.

Turn cowl right-side-out.

Slide it up Blythe’s legs, be careful around her hands (don’t get her fingers hooked into the stitches!), and have it around her neck.

Tiny Shoe Love #11

Boots. Beautiful sparkly red glitter boots. Oh yes! I recently got these from Reallusion Photography, who was destashing these boots at a local Blythe meet. Score!

20151003a

These boots are by Jemgirl Creations – I have other shoes from Jemgirl as well. They are made out of poured resin, and are delightfully glittery, very evenly mixed. Very sparkly, and it’s eye catching. I love them! These are quite possibly the most glittery, sparkly doll shoes that I own! There’s also some amazing detail that Jemgirl was able to get from the original boots, the lace detail is subtle with the busy glitter design, but it’s a fun detail to have in a quality pair of boots.

Tiny Shoe Love is a feature on BlytheLife.com to showcase and share doll shoes that grace Michelle’s picky dolls’ feet. We love tiny shoes in this house, and we hope you do too!
